I’m the line editor, copyeditor, proofreader, and everything in between, here at Chris Bird Edits.

I came to this business quite by chance, having the quirky habit of looking for errors and realizing that I loved the challenge. I remember passing a massive highway billboard that contained a glaring error, and almost driving off the road!

I’ve been self employed most of my adult life. For ten years, I owned a word processing and desktop publishing company. We interviewed job hopefuls and developed their resumes; typed and formatted handwritten manuscripts for self-published authors before the days of Kindle Direct Publishing; created print-ready documents like political brochures and restaurant menus; and prepared business documents and proposals for a multitude of small business entrepreneurs.

I’m a graduate of Edit Republic’s High Level Proofreading and Copy Editing, and a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), where I continually upgrade my skills and add new ones. An avid reader, I read everything from legal thrillers and crime fiction, to autobiographies, memoirs and romance novels. And I definitely love a good beach read!

I should also mention that I’m born and raised Canadian, and in June 2020 I became a citizen of the United States as well. I was educated in UK English and have since become fully versed in US spelling and grammar. We think there’s not much difference between the two countries until Americans see an extra letter in colour, and Canadians join a queue.

I’m a grandmother now (the best part of life), a macrame fiber artist, and the doting human to two Havanese pups and a sweet senior Tabby. I rescue bees from the pool, and help turtles get safely across the road. Did I mention I was quirky?
